well my problem came about with a nut that had been savaged  once this was off twas pretty simple to do and iam a complete novice just make sure you have a good set of sockets....if you are able to remove the fan do it for more room i had to do it with fan in place as couldnt budge nut again  ......undo the jubilee clip on the big oil pipe to the left and move the pipe over this will give better access to the left sided nuts on the pump ....the pully is a bugger to undo .....take three of the nuts off and you will be left with th last one nice and tight ...i found putting a screwdriver through one of the holes helped undo the last one..... to budge the alternator undo the top screw (top left) then undo the release screw (which is on the side facing you) push the alternator towards the engine releasing the belts....you will do this before the pully  all in all just take your time wether it should take an hour or three its not a race !just be sure you do it safely :) ...good luck

Cheers for the info. I can't see me doing this this weekend as I have to work ouside and the weather is lousy :x
I have been following the thread, and I think you have asked all the questions I was going to ask. Reading the factsheet is one thing, but it's good to know how someone else tackled the job :) I started to get a bit worried when you said you couldn't get that bolt off
