Many thanks to those who helped .Spot on diagnosis, and as advised, just pointed at the problem, and asked the mechanic to fix it. Time taken – 1hr.45mins to remove exhaust cowl, remove alternator, try extracting the stud, and eventually drilling out, and re-tapping for a 10mm. stud. Now to wait and see if job succeeds.
