Now thats interesting RobinS. Rather more than 800g then - I'd never seen that figure in all the debates on BF before about aircon. Is it absolutely 'kosher'- I'm sure it is. What is the cost implication out of interest? (i.e. 50%ish more gas needed than previously thought etc.)

I don't know about cost differences as I have't had mine done yet, but it does need to be kept filled properly as apparently it is the coolant gas that lubricates the system as well - not enough gas also means not enough lubricant, so it'll all wear out too quick.

1150g is only 60g more than a estima, and they didn't make any extra charge,so should be ok,i have seen some tyre places that state a maximum of oil that can be used in there oil and filter change offers, but doesn't say anything about aircon regas

Here's a thing. When I bought my Bongo, teh guy selling it repairedand aircon leak and got it regassed for me as part of hte deal. I told him 800g to tell the aircon people. My aircon seems to work fine, but should I be worried? Is it possible to get a top up done cheaply or would it have to be completely regassed?

air con systems lose about 15% of there gas a year,so i'm told, and is recomended you have them serviced about every 3 years or so,maybe a full regas and service would be more economical than just a top up.

It's usual practice to evacuate the system before recharging. If you don't then how can you possibly know how much is in there to start with?

Has anyone tried one of the mobile aircon service technicians? I wondered what they were like for cost and quality.

I'd say that is rather a lot murphy unless they encountered repair problems. I spoke with specialists last November and the going figure was more like £60-70 with - as others have said - the Kwikfit bunch coming over the hill with their deal.

Alright - I didn't know some bongo's had single aircon and some had dual... so how do I know what I have? ('97 SGL5 with climate control)

Converters may remove rear system to allow space for fridge, water tanks etc.
Do you get cooled are out of vents in the roof behind front seats? Do you have a working dashboard switch with a picture of a fan on it and the word 'Rear'?
Answer in my case is no to both (switch still there, but does nothing, vents ditto) - as rear aircon was removed, when converted.
