My h/lights were rubbish and mine is a 99V with lens that are crystal clear and with reflectors in as new condition.
I have a theory which I expounded when I had the first Disco. It is that:-
beacuse one sits so high in both the Bongo & the Disco you tend to look DOWN on the headlight beam rather than ALONG it in a normal car. In the Disco I put 80/100's and then I could see where I was going.
I have replaced Bertie's bulbs with Maplins extra bright jobbies (not blue) and they are standard wattage. They are MUCH better. The sidelighs need attention now as they are (as someone described earlier) P***y yellow.

..and definitely better than a lot I've had. More than adequate esp. since its not a car for driving very fast. I've read about yellowing of the headlamp plastic etc but I dont have any probs of that sort (and no doubt you dont either franco)

Right Mike - no yellowing, and they light up much further than I ever need to see. I can see the logic in improving main beam, but who needs bright dipped beams? - you only use them when around other traffic.

I would imagine that on vehicles the age of our Bongo's, poor headlamps are more likely to be a voltage drop at the bulb, due to dirty/tired switches and connectors.

May be worth stickind a multimeter on the bulb connector, note the voltage, then measure the battery voltage - any difference would indicate a high resistance along the way.
Carefull cleaning of any connectors should improve matters - or you could insert a relay supplied from the battery, which would then be switched on by the existing lighting circuit.
