I have much the same layout and can make the bed infill. Did you have to cut the white folding legs down, and where might I get some from?

looks great. can i ask where the folding legs are from as i would like to do something similar, tried to do the infil using a cot mattress on top of storage boxes which was fine but the boxes got broken one by one (not very sturdy)

My stimpson style layout.. homebuilt... I like it because standing at the back of the van and cooking is way easier on my poor back than being inside and sitting or bending down... The bench seat is still comfortable enough to sit on, and not too bad for sleeping on, its kind of a compromise. If it is completely flat, it would be less comfortable for the rear passengers when travelling...
Waeco Cf-18 fridge, 2 burner dometic hob and sink, dual battery setup, inverter, 20L water tank, self priming water pump, shower, small table in front (you can just see it in the second pic) and sleeps 4.. I've semi-flattened the rear bench seat.. but I think I will reupholster soon which flat ply and foam like one of the other members on here...jobs still to do : front cab curtain...

Hi There,

I thought I would post some photos of my insides (!) which are a bit different to all the others I have seen. I decided that I wanted a rear galley kitchen, but not to have to jump over the back seats to get to it. I didn't want to reverse the seats either as I need them for carrying passengers forward facing. So I got a pair of single seats made, which work in a similar way to a rock and roll bed and connect up to the front seats to make the beds. The seats are rock solid and bolted right through the floor. This means you can walk from front to back through the gap, have one bed down and one up if required, access all cupboard space easily and still seat 4 people round the table (using the flip up seats). It does mean that I can only carry 4 people (driver and 3 passengers), but that works fine for me.

I also have some home made bed boards, a nice ply floor, top cupboards and a cubby box. Plus a great Igloo cool box which keeps ice frozen for 3 days with no power. I may install a meths cooker at some point but at the moment have an electric hob which runs from the hook up (plus a portable gas cartridge hob for emergencies!). This means no gas bottle to carry and no requirement for a gas locker.

I have had 3 trips so far this year since making the changes and the layout works really well for me. A 3 week Europe tour is planned for the summer and I think I will fill all that cupboard space pretty easily!

Bedboards covered with carpet to make them match the interior. There is an end section which I can also use, but when I am with the kids I leave it at home and it creates a handy space to store the table when travelling:

It always amazes me how different every Bongo is. I suppose its all down to the owner what they want and how they want to use the space

I've seen some new and innovative internal mods recently posted. Would anybody like to archive links on this sticky thread?

We've decided to stick with our homemade effort, which although basic, has suited our needs better than expected. I check back to see if I've posted pics of it and if not, add that to the thread.

Pics of my unit, Amdro inspired, clamped in place on the rail with coachbolts & wingnuts, top unit unclamps so it can go in the awning if necessary, thus freeing up the loo unit as a seat, the top of the coker unit sits between the rear of the unit & the folded forward front seat to create a table & the front folds down to create another table. Further adaptations are on the roundtuit list.

Smart and simple.

I've made a few alterations to mine that I'll post up ASAP.

We've just got back from a road trip around Europe before which I spent two weeks building a rear cooking and storage unit with top lockers. It worked really well apart from a couple of design improvements.

We wanted to retain the flexibility of 8 seats so this conversion can be left in situ with all seats in place or removed by undoing 6 bolts. The top lockers remain in place. I have yet to make the doors for the top lockers and we had a couple of instances of raining gadgets when I took roundabouts too quickly.

The slide out drawer contains a shallow drainer in leu of a sink with a folding tap connected to the small water tank and a smev twin burner hob, the gas cylinder is hidden behind the black bag in the left which contains a bucket BBQ. There's also a cutlery drawer under the drainer.

Above that is the Waeco compressor fridge attached to some heavy duty sliding rails...

There are some cubby holes for storing things like tent pegs, mallet, hook-up cable etc and two deep drawers for pots, pans, kettle etc.

Inside there's a table with folding legs (which also connects to the rear drawer to make an external table) and some top lockers on the side and rear.

The lockers have LED strip lights on the underside.

It was our first real camping trip and we spent 2.5 weeks in Europe staying in 3 campsites and covering nearly 3000 miles, the Bongo was faultless.

Next up is cupboard doors for the top lockers and more storage lockers above the gas cylinder and water tank.

Now heres my challenge
I need to carry 6 adult size people in a Bongo, but its a bonus if I can use it as a camper van, so could I make a side kitchen, have a two seater with belts facing forwards and same facing backwards?
If so have any one done this?

You mean like this one (from earlier in this thread) ?

If the middle seat is fitted on modified runners, you could easily switch it from 6 facing forward to "lounge" seating depending if you were on a camping trip or just using it as an everyday vehicle.
