I think you have a secret longing to train as a mechanic, so you'd know all this already. You'd better put 'overalls' on your Xmas list.
So, the fans ARE bloody different as I suggested.
This calls for a completely new thread TOPIC - FANS.
2 reasons for saying this,
1 - They are complex enough to be considered in their own right
2 - I don't want this thread hi-jacking - not when we are this close to an answer - If it gets hi-jacked, all the info that has come up will get lost and that would be a shame.
If another thread started between folk who knew about the fans, then when complete, it could be married to this one and a better total understanding of the complete system reached. All that and the handbags havn't been drawn.
Come on you fannists, (nearly typed something else then) start a new topic and call it 'FANS - HOW DO THEY WORK'
If anyone else agrees, let me (or a Techie moderator or any administrator) know and we can attempt to split the topic up, so that the info about the fans is carried across to the new topic.
Hi,is there not a dedicated fan for the air con,and this fan also comes on (is used)with the cooling fan for further assistance. This system is used in a lot of vehicles.

Changed tactics on the drawing after comments from members. Back to the drawing board
Now being produced in 3D like Grahames but viewable from any angle.
To get the detail spot on, I need to know
precise detail of component parts, and in particular, the thermostat area.
If anyone has stripped their system apart at any time and has photographs of any bits, please send pm with email address.
Soooooooooooo close to a result here

Nope

Taster of what I've been doing.
I abandoned the original 2D sketch and reproduced the complete system with a 3D version.
I used the original grahameatwork drawing (with his blessing) as a basis, just added a few of the finer connection details.
The test of wether it has been of any value in making the whole thing easier to understand is open for comment.
The above is a very small part of one of (what I think) the more interesting areas of the system with lots of text information omitted.
Is it clear to you what it is?
Thanks to Kirsty and Hatdn for pointing out errors

.
Now corrected.

Certainly getting there, looks good to me, easy to see what it relates to on the bongo

Where the hose goes into the stat from the front heater, it should be a T-piece where you've got an elbow, the other arm of the T being the return from the rear heater.

Thank you - makes me happy to know its not all been in vain.
Don't know if I have connected all the pipes 100% correctly - am waiting for replies from others on that score.
The amount of informatiom I propose for the FINAL thing will be far more than you can currently see. Faaaaaaaaaar more.

Think of it more as a think tank than a debate
I'm not sure how willing Mazda'd be to play ball, I get the impression car manufacturers don't like people actually knowing the finer points

May be wortha try though.

I'm with you on that, whatever you're on about,
still haven't the guts to do coolant change.

Absolutely. Its the exploring that's the fun. If it isn't to be it isn't to be but Ron has (I believe/suspect) skills from his past professional life that might allow him to - if anyone can - charm them out of the trees. At the end of the day the Bongo is out of production, and it is a great living advert for Mazda especially if they help us in ensuring it doesn't get dissed over cooling system probs that aren't necessarily its fault. The definitive coolant system factsheet on the Bongos most notorious issue, would be a jewel in the crown of factsheets, especially if it has passed scrutiny by Mazda. I know this is shooting for the stars but why not eh?
My nephew Kieran, with his Dads support, has been shooting for the stars. He's beginning to look like he might make it too (wot - me green with envy? Nah!

...all we need to do now is get him in a Bongo

Me neither

I had to due to necessity (blown radiator seam)..... it's easy....(I did it My Way as Frank used to say)........BUT the system has to be HOT....obviously this thread will have to be taken into consideration as to "how it works" and maybe ( up against the wall....again) the Coolant Fact sheet needs a wee bit more infomation regarding How HOT is HOT and the indicators.....then the bleeding will be a success....

Looks great Widdowson. As all but one of the hoses are on the return side shouldn't they be coloured blue (lighter shade maybe). The top hose from the turbo has been subjected to heat so should be red IMHO.

!00% with you on that one.
Ignore the colours for the time being. I needed to make them like that initially (vividly different) until I have got the circuit absolutely correct.
Once thats been achieved, then I will need to find out precisely which direction coolant is flowing in every single single piece of pipe. I have a good idea but I want to be absolutely sure before comitting.
Then, the pipework can be colour graded - red/blue gradientificationified

(I think I can do this anyway) to give an indication of direction of coolant flow. Shall seek advice on colouring later.
Remember, I am a thickie at this - basically applying what other folk are telling me. If any information I get conflicts, then I check, and check again until it makes sense to me. Then I commit to the drawing.
I'm helping myself to understand the system here, and if that helps others along the way, then fine.
I must be convinced that what I have done is correct before 'going public' so to speak.
One very important area under scrutinisation at the moment is the thermostat. Dandy is also trying to find out. Get this bit wrong and the whole bag o' mashings can go in the bin.
Has anyone split one with an angle grinder and had a look inside?
It is my belief, from what I know so far, that the inside of the thermostat is not simply a straight through jobbie. I think there may be some nifty porting going on in there.
Anyone know?
