Thanks for the positive thoughts everyone. Too early to phone the site yet, will have my shower and finish getting ready first.

Battery lamps are a must, Graham, if you haven't got a leisure battery!

Caz drove over the Severn further north yesterday, not flooding yet but very full. Of course, it's lower down that some of us will be crossing.

Remember to keep to the main roads and avoid those towns I mentioned if you can. I'll update later this morning.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

I have just phoned Eastnor Castle and spoken to Caroline. She says it hammered down there last night. David has inspected the deer park campsite and is going to recommend to the Castle owner that the campsite be CLOSED.

This is such a shame in view of the forecast getting colder but drier.

I'm still looking to go somewhere (I'm all packed and ready to go) for the weekend. Does anyone have any credible ideas?

A perfect site, just defeated by the weather :(  One to go back to in better conditions.

Only one I can think of is Wilkswood farm in Purbeck, where they hold the Purbeck festival. No hardstanding but there is a made up road to the farm and its high and very well drained. I have been there in rain and its a really quick dry out. Fnatastic walking country plus good pubs. Even a steam train going past, no station though.

Absolutely rotten luck Jilly after all the organising. You have put so much effort into into what should have been the perfect weekend.

Decision time: because I'm all packed and ready to go, I'm going to go here http://www.tomsfieldcamping.co.uk/index.html because I'm usually not able to because they don't take bookings and they usually get full very quickly on Bank Holidays.

I've rung them. They're open and almost empty at the mo. Grass pitches, some with EHU. They do have one area that's good for motorhomes but it's not big. Bongo type vehicles and cars should be fine.

I realise this is no good for many people (geography-wise) but it's too good an opportunity for me to try it. Also there's a band on at the Square Compass, Worth Matravers, that Gray is going to see and Gray and Brett will be on a posher, and more expensive campsite, not far from me.

You're welcome to join me if you're able to, but it's a first come first served campsite.

I'll try to re-arrange Eastnor another time.

Not because we want to Jilly, but out of necessity I'm afraid,
having said that I'm sure you'll see plenty of us :P
those coastal paths always end up at some roaring log fire or other

I am hoping to join Jilly on Tom's Field tomorrow. All a bit weather dependent as long as the site is not waterlogged. A good pub up the road and they do serve breakfast on the campsite.

Wish there was a decent forecast. The local one says cloudy today, but unfortunately the clouds are peeing down. Dog is by the radiator and won't budge. Will pack Bongo and hope for dry weather.

This is fine with us, Square and Compass is a firm favourite, (one of only a very few pubs to be in every issue of the Good Beer Guide), do have a look in their museum at the dinosaur poo.

We should be along mid afternoon. :D

definitely have to go to Eastnor another time. :D
