It is called a steam gathering, but there is much more than steam traction engines, this is a link to the write up in the local rag for last years event with a few pics

yorkshirelass wrote:Well you guys seem all sorted for this weekend....air show/tennis/shopping.......?? I've been sweating re who to come as, for the party???? NOW I know..........and its taken me all day to sort the little b-gg-rs out !!!! As for the steam rally, they are super machines; especially when they do their collective 'tooting ' It clearly takes less and less to give me a thrill in my old age
Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday; fingers crossed for some respite from all this rain [-o<
Looking forward to seeing you again and seeing your inspired idea - I just wish I could have one!

I've got a tennis raquet and some balls up in the loft. Have not played for about fifty years so as you will expect it is an old style wooden one. But at least it is not too heavy as it was passed down to me by my big sister.

there is a badminton set kicking around in this office somewhere if anyone fancies a more gentle game - might even have a go myself if my new all singing all dancing knee brace arrives.
Looking at the map I,m thinking the bay seems a natural place to make entrances and exits to windermere in a fast moving plane (what do i know -about flying ?) so maybe we,ll get to see the planes anyway - dont fancy the crowds much.
Rain - what rain ?????

My mum brought minimc a kids tennis set last night so I will bring it. I'm afraid that I am useless at these sort of games - I run from the ball so count me out :) Good for a laugh thouggh to watch I suppose.

I think that it is a great idea and probably the safest/best bet to come along as a forum name or at least maybe as the avatar. =D>

I just hope that everyone has the common sense not to cause offence to anyone, whether they are there or not. [-X

Incidentally the aircraft for the Windermere Airshow on Sunday tend to get into formation/position over the Bay so we stand a good chance of seeing them.

Having said that the helicopter trips from the staem gathering could get interesting with all those fast low flying aircraft about

cheers

Just wondering what time peeps are going tomorrow. We are aiming to be there around 1pm ish.
Will there be anyone there to tell us where to go (politely  ) or do we just pitch anywhere?
