So with the boxes out of my way I had a go at cleaning up the belt end of the engine, this has all been done with brake cleaner and a small wire brush, it's going fairly well.

That's before I started,

And that's after, it's made quite a difference.

I don't think I'm going to go crazy with engine and paint it all I'm not sure I see the benefit considering it's all hidden when fitted so I'll just get everything clean before fitting all the new parts.

Looking good.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

So earlier in the thread I mentioned a snapped bolt for the dipstick tube as shown below,

This proved to be stubborn in coming out, it resisted heating with map gas, mole grips which snapped it flush, a hole drilled through and a torx bit knocked in with more heat and left hand drill bits.

Now the above sounds quite dramatic but really it took about 20 minutes to run through all those options without success so I decide to drill it out and completely and helicoil it,

That'll teach it, hopefully there shouldn't be anymore broken bolts to deal with but I'm not promising as the bolts holding the exhaust shields on may be a challenge.
