Double din original stereo upgrade - help needed re wiring adaptors

Post by Bealie » Sat Nov 22, 2025 9:27 pm

Hi everyone
I've removed my Japanese double din stereo/cd mini disc player (eventually!) and am looking to fit a modern touch screen unit. However, I have quite a lot of plugs to find adaptors for. I believe I need a PC2-78-4 adaptor for the big plug, but what about the others? - ie., the 'BC' and 'RSES' ones? I have a reversing camera fitted, but I'm not sure which one that is (the green one?).
Please help me, I've looked through loads of threads but can't find anything beyond the main adaptor 😳

And I'd really welcome suggestions for a good value car play/android unit 👍

I think you will need to look in the Manual to find out what the other connectors are for, the Bongo won't have the wiring for them existing they will need to be fitted to connect to the other external devices. You don't say what make or model the device is so I would suggest a google search for "Make Model Manual" to find out what they are.

Hi Geoff
Thank you for that. I haven't yet found a manual for the unit, but I have found out today that BC might be the link to the vehicle's computer for trip, mpg, etc (Board Computer?) and SRES is to do with the mobile (or sat nav?) network ("SRES stands for Signed Response, which is a crucial component of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) authentication process"). So if I'm going to be connecting up to an android unit then I won't need those plugs connecting.
I'm figuring that most modern units have the ISO connections, so the correct adaptor for my 20-pin Mazda plug should suit most units.
I haven't yet decided on any particular model, was hoping for some recommendations from fellow Bongonauts 🤞and if I get a unit that takes a reversing camera then hopefully I'll be able to connect my current camera without too much trouble.
I'll probably go for a mid-range Pioneer, but do wonder if a gamble on a cheaper Chinese unit might be worth it?
Any help appreciated...😀

Don't gamble on cheap Android units! Too many have and then found that there cheap because Android is designed for Phones which aren't switched off merely the display, the rest keeps running with the consequence that your LB is flattened in no time when your parked up. Better quality Android units are correctly switched and won't flatten the battery, but by then there in the normal price range ;-)
