V6 stalling in traffic

What's the MPG like? Can I use chip fat and veggie oil? What about LPG?

V6 stalling in traffic

Post by Vincey » Thu Jan 02, 2025 6:03 pm

Hi
I have a v6 bongo that starts and drives perfectly.. long journeys are no problem.. but I recently drove 70 miles with no problem , but then I ended up.in slow moving traffic.. it cut out and would not start. After 20 minutes it started.. drove 200 yards and cut out at the next junction.. this continued with 20 minute cool down periods until I got home.. cutting out at every junction.. I could keep it running sometimes by knocking it into neutral and keeping the revs up.. no eml . So didnt look for blink codes.. It started the next day and ran no problems..until it got warm and in slow moving traffic.. fitted a new coil, and crank sensor and ignition amplifier.. seemed ok for a month.. then just before xmas I went away for a week 70 ish miles away..drove there no probs.. on the way back we ended up in slow moving traffic . It all happened again.. after investigating further, i found the eml bulb had been removed.. i checked the blink codes . 1.1 1.3 1.4 and 1.5.. which i translate to crank sensor.. which is new.. but its pointing to the new one being faulty... any suggestions welcomed greatly..

Well its not unknown for new devices to be faulty/damaged during insertion, have you checked that the wiring looks OK, won't be the first time if the plug hasn't been connected to the loom either :-) Maybe disconnect it and see if the fault code changes, then plug it back in and see what happens, it may cure it, if not then it suggests that it might be faulty.

Thanks Geoff..
I made a mistake reading the codes.. tired and other excuses..
Its reading as
10----air intake thermosensor
12----throttle position sensor
15---- oxygen sensor RH

Well I'm not a mechanic, so would suspect that there maybe a problem with the air intake perhaps, could something be blocking the inlet or maybe an air pipe come loose further along the system, maybe the inlet pipe has got some water in it as it dips down under the firewall if you have driven thru any water recently given the weather! But I would start at the air intake (to the offside of the radiators) and follow it along perhaps ?
See https://www.lushprojects.com/bongoparts ... mgno=.html for air inlet and filters ..
