Door Loom/Central Locking

Hi

I have the common failed loom where it enters the driver's door.

Anyone (Geoff ) know what colour wire is the likely culprit, please?

I've soldered several of the wires over the years so it’s not quite obvious which one has failed.

Hi Bob, depends whats failed there are several circuits, door lock uses three, windows use 4, mirrors plus +12v and earth. Quite often more than one wire will break at a time;

I haven't got a copy of the Mirrors wiring with me and my router failed as I was leaving for the Bash so nine of my web pages are alive at the moment

Just the central locking won't open, problem is I had a new tailgate a while back and the lock barrel didn't get swapped.

That should be addressed at the Bash.

Can't believe it failed as I went to load Bongy for am departure.

I also have been having issues with my central locking.
For days, only the drivers door will lock and unlock, intermittently, all doors will react to the fob and lock in unison, then return to just the drivers door reacting.
However, for the whole week at the Bash, all locks were working perfectly.
Could this be linked to the long drive to Stourport having charged the battery? my normal use of the Bongo is just pootling around locally only doing very few miles every week.

Possibly if you know you had a flat battery ?
More likely is that the loom that runs from the "A" pillar of the drivers door into the door at the lower hinge of the door is a massive flexing point in which after 20+ years the wires start breaking, initially intermittent as the door is moved, then eventually it snaps completely and various functions won't work, like lock, window, mirrors etc. which wire goes first is random!

Yep.

You can normally strip off the tape between the A pillar and door and identify which wire(s) are failing.

It is possible, but fiddly, to strip back the insulation and solder in a new length of wire.

Done this on mine, a few years ago, and now it’s packing in again, so I need to get the loom out and either replace it (expensive) or get it on the bench and do a proper job (cheap).

As Geoff says, once this starts there is a risk or opening the windows and they refuse to shut, or won’t open when you need to pay a toll/get pay and display ticket, so we need to do this.

Don’t think my battery is flat, no other issues from it.
Just seems weird that it is working properly after the long drive when it hasn’t been working for weeks.
Still working at the moment.
Will get someone to look at the wiring.

Any auto sparks should be able to do this, no need for a Bongo specialist.

If you prove it to the loom there are repair kits https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115474452244 available its a very common problem, but make sure first!

Well one method, is too slowly open/close the door whilst trying the door if it suddenly starts working then you have identified that bending the loom over the hinge is causing the problem. However it can be a bit random at times! Otherwise simply open up the loom itself and visually investigate the wiring, try running your finger nail along the length of the exposed wires you can sometimes feel the broken wires inside the insulation.
