Recomended Bongo Garages South West Wales

Post by Bongo&Cash » Fri Mar 22, 2024 10:40 am

Hi all, first time poster, long time reader!

Wondering if any recommendations are floating around for Bongo friendly garages in South West Wales?
Brought a 03' plate 2 l Petrol and it has been standing through most of winter. Generally everything is ok but the power steering goes heavy/light unexpectedly and the idles are a little rough when sat stationary.
Im usually quite handy with cars but id rather have an experienced head sort out these initial issues.

I've searched through older posts but most are several years old. did my own research and foudn a great sounding motohome garage who advertised experience of Bongos (andydaveymotors) but sadly their Bongo mechanic has retired this Jan. The owner did recommend a few other garages but those leads have fallen a bit flat.

any help greatly appreciated!

You might find that the steering problem is one or both of the U/J's on the steering column, if the grease has hardened!
See https://www.lushprojects.com/bongoparts ... mgno=.html
One is inside the cabin the other outside the firewall at the bottom.

Many thanks. Yeah I've seen this thread and the positive reviews. Just hoping for a recommendation nearer home. If it came to getting substantial work done I'd head here or Bristol

Thanks for the heads up. I've checked this out as well. So far given both joints a good dose of penetrative spray and some lithium grease spray too. I'd say it's made an improvement but am wondering if it's more a pump/belt issue?

Got the bongo into Target Mini Repairs in Swansea. Their website has a history of Bongo experience and the two mechanics certainly seemed to know there way around bongos and other imported vans.
Turned out the cause of the dancing idle was a leaking air pipe above the manifold. Age and heat had caused a crack and causing havoc with the air intake at low revs. Guys turned it around in a few hours.
So far so good. Will definitely be using them for an upcoming service.
