2l 1998 ford freda rocker cover help

Post by fordfreda90 » Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:46 pm

Evening all I'm needing another wee bit of help, I'm trying to do the rocker cover gasket on the 2ltr ford freda, so I got to the engine bay and I have no clue with all the bits above the rocker cover there are pipes and plugs etc I really don't want to mess up my project.

The rocker cover is under the circled area I've seen videos of replacements being done on the 2.5 diesel and it doesn't seem to have this manafold stuff above that mine has.

If anyone can help that would be great

Thanks in advance mike

From those images I can't see any leaks so why does it need replacing? If you really want to do it you've already got your answer, remove what needs removing.

Hi
I did mine some time ago, first attempt took 4 hours as I was a little daunted by it all, but 2nd attempt... was only 2 hours from start to finish. There is a really good guide on this forum on how too complete the task.
I had to do mine twice as I did not apply additional gasket sealent in the 4 corners as instructed too, also apply sealent to both sides of the new rocker gasket to get a good seal. Failure to do this on my first attempt resulted in redoing 2 months later. Don't forget to order a new inlet manifold gasket before stripping down as advisable to replace each time removed. I cannot remember the torque settings for rocker box bolts, but it's not much so check this beforehand as you can easily strip the threads through over tightening.
I took plenty of pictures before removing parts and wires so as to ensure I replaced them correctly.
Good luck its actually quite easy, just take your time and photos.
