Wheels again

Post by newbongoowner » Wed Jul 07, 2021 7:35 pm

Hi

I currently have a bongo aero with the standard 15" alloys on but these have slight corrosion so either looking to get them refurbished or might fancy a change to something bigger, maybe 17"

From this list I can see many manufacturers use the same fitment my question is if the offset is a lower number does that mean they stick out of the arches slightly more? Hoping I can put kia sportage 17" offset 40.5 wheels on as they are capable of taking the weight but have 225/60/17 99h wheels as standard so I know the radius will be bigger just don't really want to change the tyre as well as it starts getting ££££

Thanks for any input

Good Morning

Regarding the way the offset works (in basic terms). The lower the number the more the wheel will stick out when you get in to the racing type deep dish wheels you can even get negative offset numbers.
the value is measured in mm so a few mm on something like the Bongo will not make a massive difference I suspect.

Thats a big list of compatible wheels is the just the wheel stud PDC thats the same? if so you have to also make sure the centre hole is the same size sometimes called the spigot. its quite important that its correct as its as much this as the studs that centres the wheel on the hub

Yes apparently they all have a centre bore of 67.1, not sure I will go for the ferrari wheels but the kia sportage or hyundai x35 seem a good choice as these are heavy cars with 99h weight tyre as standard

I had the popular RX8 alloys which are 8x18 ET50 with 235/50/18 this gives a comfortable ride and the speedometer is accurate. I then changed to the Wolfrace Eurosport Assassins 8 x 18 ET35 alloys which are weight rated for a commercial 🚐 also with 235/50/18 101 tyres. Being ET35 I had to trim the front of the bumper for clearance and the tyres come out to the arches which actually makes quite a difference driving as the Bongo does feel a lot better on the road it is surprising.
I did try some Nissan 350 wheels but being ET30 and 33 they protruded a little so decided against.

Very interesting there are that many with the right bore as well.
Great work on that research and thanks for sharing

Shame the Ferrari wheels are not strong enough

I went for some 16 inch CX3 wheels that were being sold locally. Only issue was they were 95 tyres all round but two of them needed replacing anyway so got 98 running on the back, no issues with them after a few months and certainly more grip than the ones before.

Ps you'll need to get the right wheel nuts for them, alloy ones are often tapered and steel ones aren't
