What is this lever?

I have noticed this lever under the bonnet on my V6 bingo. Anybody know what it does and which way the lever stops be left?

Image didn't make it it seems but I suspect your referring to the Air Con air inlet either from the Front (Summer) or from the Rear (Winter of the bonnet, it doesn't make a lot of difference in our climate ;-)
