AFT Motor problem
Hi looking for some advice please.
Bought a bongo the roof wouldn't open due to ceased motors. Managed to get the roof open and repair the ceased motors worked great except it wouldn't go all the way up stop about couple of inches from full lift I could hear the motors spinning but the roof stopped. I decided today to remove the motors and grease the runners now since I have put them back on the roof wont go up but I can hear the motors spin.ive checked several times that they are fitted correctly the teeth on the cogs dont look worn I'm wondering is there anything else I can check TIA

Possibly the gas struts are also tired, you don't say the age of the vehicle but most will be more than 20 years old! Also are you running the engine, it needs full voltage from the alternator to get full power from the motors.
Gas struts can be replace d using this form www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/mazda/bongo

Agree with Geoff, and will it raise if you assist it by pushing up inside?
Re: AFT Motor problem
Thanks for the replies. Yeah I have the engine running and it will go up with a push. It just sounds like the motor is slipping i think the struts will need replacing which would explain why it wouldn't go full up in the first place.
Is there a way of servicing the 2 runners? the ones which connect to the motor and turn when the roof is going up

Re: AFT Motor problem
It wouldn't hurt to lubricate the cables if you haven't. They run in the roof channels and through the motors, so will take the lubricant into them. Try something like chain lube, like you'd use on a bike (not something that attracts dust.) Obviously lubricate the cables on both sides of the roof.
Put the roof up, stand on a ladder and look down at the channel. You'll see a small slot at the top, on the aluminium, where you can spray the lube.
Then polish the struts with a dry cloth.

Re: AFT Motor problem
For the motors to slip, might suggest there loose from the roof as there is a crown gear that drives the two cables to/fro in order to keep each side in sync with the other.
Re: AFT Motor problem
That's definitely something to check! These 2 links show you more on what Geoff's advising:
