Combi TV/DVD/Freeview
Hi everyone. Waiting to hear that our Bongo is ready for collection..!! So...turning my attention to some inflight entertainment for the kids. Have a 7" DVD player in car at present (best £99 ever spent for quiet long journeys....sad I know but a fact). It is making funny noises after being dropped a few times from great heights...so I suspect about to die.
Fancy something larger and this on ebay looks a bit too good to be true http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 33566&rd=1 . Found some other threads discussing options and Mike (onb4c), you were about to buy one. Did you or has anyone else and are they any good? Also would be great to see any piccies of how folk have set up there systems. Liked the idea of attaching to hatch so can be hidden in roof.
Thanks

Yep - I got one of these. Had a bit of a scare when the first one went wrong after playing 1 DVD - wouldnt accept any more in the slot (oooh matron!). But they replaced it (although I paid £10 to return it which I shouldnt have had to). I'm very happy with it. Will try and take a pic of it in the Bongo. If you fit a curtain rod with mid span support you can hang the device from it and brace it by clipping its straps to the base of the Bongo centre console. I've even got a booster aerial (£9.99 from Argos) held to the skylight with 3 sucker pads and can get TV on the move. So yes, very pleased with it

I dont worry about widescreen too much as our tellys in the house are all non-widescreen (old and cheap - thats me!). I hardly watch telly anyway, but it is useful as a 'get you by'for the kids and my wife when we are out ('Oh No - Antiques Roadshow is on it 5 mins and have a 1hr drive home' etc.).
I meant to mention the games. They are nothing more than old, simple arcade type games so not really that important. How much is the CostCo one. Might be a better option than mine as you have a place to take it back to if any problems.

I've gone the cheapo route with these from Agros !

They're on offer at the mo and I can always add a freeview box later. I prefer 'seperates' so that when one goes down you dont lose the whole of your entertainment options.

Hi Mike,
The Costco TV/DVD Player /screen was 179 + VAT I think. I had a brief look at it and moved on to save me from myself....
It seemed to have an input which I was mostly interested in but it was not showing a picture so could not tell what quality it was.
I am told that Costco are OK to deal with if you need to return stuff so you have a point regarding asian Ebay deals.

Yea I bought the 8.4" one too, over a year ago and I have literally played it to death in fact, the spindle has gone so it will not play any more discs, the tv and radio is fine but no games or dvds thru it, I have e mailed the person I bought it from asking if they have any spares, still waiting for a reply but I must say it is a brill piece of kit,I was so impressed I put a thread on straight away. At the mo I am still using it via one of those £9.00 dvd mp3 players from Asda a couple of weeks ago, the picture is perfect, still hoping it can be repaired as I take on hols with me. I would say if anyone is thinking of getting one, go for it, mine cost me £70.00 it was a make me an offer sale, I bit £55.00 and with postage from Hong Kong it came to £70.00. Well spent. I this cannot be fixed I will get another and keep this for spares. Happy motoring. PS forgot to say anyone from or near enough to Wales, there are two stalls on Rheola market on Saturdays well worth checking out for this type of kit, really good prices too, last week there was an 8" player, twin screens and all the fixing kit, when I haggled a bit it came down from £95 to £80.00, may well go back.

Well just had a e mail from the nice people at digitronixuk, these are the people on e bay where I bought my unit, they will replace my unit at the same price at which I bought it, i.e £69.00 including post and packing as it is not viable to repair it. Now, in this ,money grabbing day and age isn't it nice to find a company that will do something like this even tho the unit is way out of guarantee instead of saying tough titty mate bid for another. Worth thinking about these people if anyone is going for one of these units,at least they seem to have a good after sales service. Seems like I will have some happy motoring.

I bought from them. My only slight gripe when I had to send mine back was:
(a) I was asked to do daft hings like switch the unit off, leave it for a day, then switch it back on as sometimes this fiexes it. WHAT!?!?! Then I had to pay the postage to return the faulty one, and I shouldnt have had to for faulty goods (Sale of Faulty Goods Act or something I recall BF members advising). I also had to fill in and sign a faulty goods form. It was as though they thought we had wrecked it by doing something wrong. I didnt dare complain about the postage until I had received replacement goods, and now I cant be a***d. The experience was an uncomfortable one.
(b) While all this was happening, I saw the one Dixons were selling and thought, by the time I'd had to pay extra postage, the price difference made me wish I'd known about the Dixons one. HOWEVER, do I recall the Dixons one had a lift top for inserting DVD? The Digitronix one (I have the 10.4" screen unit) has a slot in the side, which I much prefer when the unit is vertical and the car may be on the move. Now I have my replacement digitronix unit, I am very pleased indeed with it. Its just that the ebay experience was a bit scary. But in fairness to them, they looked after me more or less properly so cant complain.
Phew - along winded reply!!
