2.5 v6 PETROL WON'T FIRE UP

Post by david5370 » Thu Jan 03, 2019 4:28 pm

Hi

I have a 2.5 v6 Petrol version that turns over, but doesn't fire up. Petrol gauge is up, so haven't ran out of petrol.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Yes a flurry of these problems over the last week including mine, lift the passenger seat, dry off the distributor, good spray with WD40, then check each plug well (both sides) for any accumulated oil, if so tighten up the cam cover bolts and clean out and dry the wells and also clean the rubber seals around the spark plug caps as they accumulate dirty oil under the caps themselves.

ok thanks for the reply. I've got breakdown cover for outside my house, so hopefully someone will come out and take a look. I'm not very technical minded so will pass this onto the mechanic.

Thanks

One thing I would never do is trust a fuel gauge, especially bongo ones that are known to be problematic. If in doubt stick a can of fuel in it.

Exactly, and you not only want fuel in the tank but you need to make sure that it is reaching the Injectors, and the "spark" is reaching the spark plugs.

Take care.

Hi everyone,

Well I finally got round to looking at the van yesterday.

There's nothing under the passenger seat to check, so presuming I have a different model.

I just tried the van again and it started first time. Crazy. Turned off a few times and one again, each time it fired up fine. So I'm abit baffled really.
Do they have immobilisers fitted? If they do, wondering if it's something to do with that.
Thanks

What do you mean nothing to check under the passenger seat ? Distributor is at the front of the engine on the left as you look in, the ignition system is mounted on the frame directly under the seat. Three plugs to clean and check the leads of. There is only a single version of the V6 engine.

Ok thanks for the diagram. The first guy who posted said "lift up the passenger seat" Am I being stupid or something

As I said, it's working now without doing anything.

Thanks again

ok, think I understand now. Being abit stupid, but didn't realise that pic was under the actual seat. Thought VW's were abit mad. Don't know anything about Bongo's, that's why I'm on here. So next question is how to lift the seat up ? Just watched a youtube video and the guy removed the centre console and lifted a release latch ? If anyone can provide info on how to lift the seat, then that would help. I only looked at the seat the other day and didn't see anything to suggest the seat lifted. But as I say, complete novice on Bongo's. At least I've converted from a T5, you must respect me for that at least :)

Thanks

Yes, you remove the centre console, 2 thumbnuts, one under the ashtray one at the rear box.
Then three catches one by the gear selector and two down the front of the seat itself,
seat back forward, and then lift entire seat and lean into rear.
Same on the drivers side, if you have a side conversion, then either prop the seat, or rest it on the steering wheel, or undo the bolts and take the entire seat and seatbelt catch out.

You need to look under the seat from the inside of the vehicle not outside, this wee wumin shows how its done :)
