Storage cupboard

Post by Roy748 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 12:33 pm

Hello all
I am seeking the storage cuboards that run along the side of the van, at head height. My van is unconverted but I would like additional storage that this would give. My van is a 2001 model.
If anyone has one or knows of any please can they let me know.
Many thanks in advance.

I would warn that in an unconverted van they do restrict headroom. Adults can't comfortably sit underneath them and neither can children in booster seats. There is a small window of opportunity where a child could fit under, after they finish using a booster seat but before they surpass 5' tall.

Also there are plans floating about somewhere with templates etc. to build your own if you have the skills.

Hello Sotal
Thanks for your reply. We do not have children and very seldom carry passengers so the restriction is not really a concern, but I appreciate your advice.
I did purchase some plans but after costing it all out I was hoping I might be able to purchase some already built.

@Roy748 do you have a link to the plans you bought? I'm short of space, have a side coversion and would like like to see what's involved in building some.

Roy748 I am very interested in the plans for my tintop as well, as the plans I found were for aft models.

Hello.
I bought the plans off ebay. They were £10 and detail how to build them with measurements too. They were emailed to me.
I have just checked and they are still available, if you type in this number 173292146205 in the search tab you should see them.
Let me know if you have any problems.

They're not cheap, but they look nice.

Hello Janie
Thanks for the link, they are the same ones as the plans I bought, maybe I should reconsider making them.

The picture on the ebay advert does not show the same cupboards as the Ace Campers ad ( not the on the pictures I got anyway), no doors on the ebay ones for a start. If they are ok for you the ebay type would be easier to make but be aware that cupboards for the AFT Bongo have a different shape to those for a tintop, as suggested by Winnie bongo, so if you want a good fit without big gaps make sure the plans you use are for the roof on your Bongo.

Hi folks,I was reading about topside cabinets in bongos,I have a rear kitchen pod design, think it’s original but would like to put storage cupboards above windows at drivers side,I have downloaded so images but they say line should measure 200mm to be perfect but it measures only 190mm. Does anyone have any recent templates they could upload, it’s an aft I have, thanks folks.

Hello
I built my over over head cupboards using 12mm ply. I am not sure the measurements need to be exact as I made mine to fit my requirements. One thing I did notice is some owners fixed them by screwing through the floor of the aft in order to fix it to the cabin roof. I opted for some 90 degree angle bracket that hooks over the floor through the trap hatch along with using the grab rail (removed) fixings within the cabin. Its very sturdy and when covered with grey felt you would not know.
