Bypassing the rear aircon system
My Bongo has a leak in the Air con system from the rear evaporator. This part is no longer available so I was looking for a solution and I have heard that it is possible to bypass the rear aircon system and just have the front working.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Ian, if you are lurking, do we have them?

Are you losing A/C gas at the moment?jwinkent wrote:My Bongo has a leak in the Air con system from the rear evaporator. This part is no longer available so I was looking for a solution and I have heard that it is possible to bypass the rear aircon system and just have the front working.

Re: Bypassing the rear aircon system
I've double checked and the kit we sell in the Bongoland shop is for the rear heater system.
To blank off the rear aircon you need the following parts:
For series 1 Bongos you need 1 x Mazda part S09C618D4A and 1 x Mazda part S09D618D4A
For series 2 and series 3 Bongos you need 2 x Mazda part S38A618D4
The seals are not shown for series 3 and series 4 Bongos.

Re: Bypassing the rear aircon system
Ian managed to source me the A/C blanking plugs but (at the time) they were only for the older models. In the end, I took the pipes to a local company who welded a cap to the end of the aluminium tubing to effectively make them into blanking plugs. Cost me £10 and has been completely leak free. One thing to remember is that when being re-gassed, the amount of refrigerant needs to be reduced. You can find out the correct amount from Mazda as the rear A/C was an option although it was fitted as standard to vast majority of vehicles.
Re: Bypassing the rear aircon system
I have now sorted bypassing my rear air-con. I cut the pipes about 6 inches from the joins under the passenger seat and removed the pipes from the vehicle. I then found a product which is aluminium solder so I gently squashed the pipes on the end and used the solder with a blow torch to blank the end. I then used a syringe and a piece of silicon tube to apply a small amount of pressure to the tube with the soldered end in a jar of water to check for bubbles. I have had the system re-gassed today and all seems well. I hope this helps.
