Replacement roof sensor micro switch

Hi all

One of my "roof closed" sensors is faulty as the rubber button part has perished, so I wondered how possible it is to replace?

Do both switches on each side need to be engaged for the roof up warning light to go out? I have a suspicion that only the drivers side switch makes the warning light go out, and the left hand one makes the AFT roof illumination light go out. I am happy to be corrected.

Anyway, both the switches are faulty as the roof warning light is on. My modification to both sides worked for a while (I glued extra plastic onto the pushers to engage the switch), but now they are playing up again. So:

• Can the micro switches be removed, or do you have to cut their wires etc??
  And, can you get replacement ones?

I have this problem also. Drivers side never worked so flashing light always on. Passenger side sleeved with heat shrink tube so it works and beeper stops. Geoff has I think identified source for replacements but they look a pain to fit. I suspect they could be taken out of circuit without compromising safety but would be interested in thoughts of others as I've never heard of anyone replacing them.

As far as I can tell BOTH switches have to operate to cancel the beeping, one switch also handles the internal light control;

Interesting that Geoff as my light has flashed for 11 years whereas my beeper only started staying on when the mechanical connection (i.e. not the switch itself) became a little worn (i think) and didn't reliably operate the switch. Do you think it would be straightforward to take the switches out of circuit if replacing them proves too tricky? This is one largely uncharted Bongo AFT specific problem it would be really useful to find a solution for

Can't really say, as its all done in the software of the computer - as its a safety feature I would hope that they wouldn't make it that simple!

UPDATE:

So, managed to fix the microswitch.

Removed the tiny perished rubber cover from the switch and then glued a new tiny piece of rubber onto the metal lever in the correct position to push on the switch when depressed. Used epoxy resin.

Seems to work.. Roof warning light now stays off !!

Might have to put some rubber friendly grease on the switch hole to prevent ingress of moisture.
