What coolant?

Post by TonyBongo » Sun May 15, 2016 11:05 pm

The coolant in the header tank of my Bongo which has been sat in my Garage unused for a few years in a dull green colour.

What coolant should I use to top it up?

Owing to the fact that the antifreeze in you vehicle is probably 6+ Years old personally I would drain /flush and replace with new active antifreeze.

But if you just want to top up Bluecol Universal (clear) is what I would use.

Ta

Drain/Flush sounds a bit daunting, so for time being might just top it up while deciding whether to give it a go or get garage to do it.

Conventional coolant has a lifespan of 2 years so of it's been sat for a couple of years it really should be drained, flushed and replaced. If the level has dropped over that period then there is a possibility of a leak somewhere.

It is low, but I don't know how low it was when was last used. Will top it up and keep eye on it pending a flush.

If the coolant is going to be changed anyway then tap water would be fine for topping up.
