headlight issue

Post by lisle505 » Tue Apr 19, 2016 6:48 pm

HI

My drivers side main headlight does not work when dipped, however when on full beam does work. Any ideas? have checked bulbs and assume because it works on full beam it cannot be an issue with the fuse!

Thank you

Likely fused separately, good place to start.

And welcome to the Forum. :)

Same fuse, but the connectors to the lamps themselves are well known for corrosion and then overheating, so check the actual lamp connector and inspect the contacts. If they are faulty then ceramic H4 sockets are available on ebay very cheaply.

I think Geoff identified the fuse here: http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... 3&p=559485

it sounds like one of the bulb elements has gone, the dip beam, if you put it on main beam is it the main beam element that is working only.

try swapping the bulb over from passy side to test.

I helps to know what year your Bongo is. For example, if it's 2001/ 2002 onwards it could be HID headlamps where you have a separate ballast unit to generate the high voltage required:

Thanks guys, I am going to check the bulb first, as the replacement I put in I had had for a while, then will check fuses etc then will look at contacts.
