I'm already booked with the WC meet on the May Day weekend in Hereford, as is a few others on here.Muzorewa wrote:On the assumption that Eastnor is very much more readily available than Tackeroo appears to be this year - therefore Eastnor is available at will - is anyone up for Tackeroo on the weekend of 1st May?

Hi
I'm up for either or both, but May1st is the date that they are having for Edna in Leyland, which I can't do either as at a festival that weekend.

If anyone wants to think about Eastnor as an alternative option to Tackeroo the website has been updated:
• Open: Friday 18th March to Sunday 19th June
• Open: Monday 5th September to Friday 30th September
• £8.50 per Motorhome, Caravan, Campervan, Trailer Tent or Tent
• £7.00 per Motorhome, Caravan, Campervan, Trailer Tent or Tent – Rallies (groups of 10 or more)
• We offer all camping and caravanning visitors, including rally groups, a half price family ticket for entry to Eastnor Castle for a family of up to 2 adults and 3 children, during their stay (subject to Castle opening dates and times).
• There are ample fresh water points in the park as well as cesspit emptying points.
• We do not have showers, toilets or electrical hooks ups and we do insist that all campers and caravanners have their own toilet facilities.
• Fishing is available in the lakes on the Deer Park, and is complimentary for all our caravan and camping guests.
There is good walking and cycling on the footpaths and bridleways, and pubs not too far away if that's what you want. Don't forget the deer!

At an impromptu gathering this morning, Tackeroo on 7th/8th May has been voted as a date. See you there
Clearly Eastnor on any other weekend is viable too but for Tackeroo on the very limited dates on offer we're going with Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May thus steering clear of bank-holiday weekends

This sounds good, not far away and at a time that we should be able to attend.
I take it from looking at the website linked in the first post that we just turn up - no booking required? Just pay when the warden comes round?
Is it suitable for awnings or just the Bongo as it is?
Do many Bongoers turn up for this one?
Not been to any Bongo meets yet but hoping to attend a few this year.
Thanks

No booking, just turn up, there will be space. Pay the warden when he drifts round.
The ground is hard, you'll need rock-pegs for an awning as the site was formerly some sort of military base and there are concrete foundations in a lot of places. If all else fails tie the awning to nearby trees, there are a few of them dotted about.
This event isn't a typical Bongo camp in that there are virtually no facilities, which puts some people off. But if you've got a chemical loo in your Bongo, that's all you need. Oh, and Spam
All welcome, campers and day-visitors. Postcode for the campsite is WS15 2UA although that's not entirely accurate, use 52.745157, -2.000030 in your SatNag if you're using one.
For those who haven't been before, it's a very basic site, beautiful but very basic, with water taps and an Elsan disposal point but no toilets - you need to be self-sufficient in that department. For day-visitors there's the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre at WS12 4PW and Birches Valley Forest Centre at WS15 2UQ, both reasonably close with appropriate facilities
Some photos from previous meetings so you know what you're letting yourselves in for
