Dash Warning Lights

Post by BonGoRANT10 » Sun Jan 24, 2016 3:02 pm

Yesterday afternoon when I turn the ignition key no warning lights come on.
(Always wait until yellow glow plug light goes out before turning key to start)
(First time in seven years ownership)
Used my Bongo in the morning no problem
(Engine turning but not starting so cannot check ALTERNATOR)
Checked all fuses under bonnet and at driver's knee.
All OK
Voltmeter battery reading 12.59v
Any suggestions?
If I cannot get my Bongo going should be taken to a garage on a trailer?

Check and clean the battery terminals and the -ve to chassis connection.
But if the engine is turning over but not starting that suggests that the fuses are OK and its the same set the feed the dashboard lights so rather odd ? When you say no lights you mean the dashboard red/amber warning lights on switch on ?

Putting the lights aside, it would be worthwhile checking that the glow plug rail and the stop solenoid are getting power (working) .

RED & YELLOW
What I mean by "no warning lights" is the red, seat belts, oil, battery, etc and the yellow glow plug light not coming on while at rest before turning the key to start the engine.
BLACK TO -VE BATTERY POLE
My Bongo handbook tells me not to connect to battery negative directly but to earthing point DUE to a risk of damage to electrical components.

Renewed glow plug relay last Spring.
Familiar with listening test for "click" from under the bonnet drivers side next to 12v battery.
No sure how to test "stop solenoid"

Do side lights work? If also not working then the problem lies with something in common:
Battery (but this appears ok)
Battery earth (clean and tighten as Geoff says. Also with side lights ON, voltmeter should read 0v between -ve battery terminal and chassis)
Battery +ve connection (clean and tighten as Geoff says)
100A main fuse (blue, on battery)

The 100 Amp and also the 60 Amp IG fuse must be OK to allow the starter to work, but these fuses also supply the dashboard lights.
My thinking is either battery earth or dashboard earthing points either side of the dash marked as 6 and 7 in circles below;

Has any other work been done on the vehicle of late ?

My bad, sorry - completely missed the "engine turning but not starting". Tut tut. :-#
