Wing mirror bracket

Post by thebigred » Sat Jun 06, 2015 11:50 am

Hi All,

Woke up this morning to find that someone has taken my near side wing mirror off :( - it's broken on the bracket but the rest of the mirror appears to be fine.

I can see loads of complete mirrors but does anyone know if you can buy just the bracket itself anywhere?

Cheers

OK So i've worked out you can't just replace the bracket, next question if anyone can help is are all the mirrors the same? I can't find any 01 units :(

Hi,

Could really do with a hand with this one. I have body coloured mirrors and can only find black / other colour mirror assembly and guts - in theory I'm thinking it should be possible to take the guts out of the broken mirror casing and replace with a "new" one.

Does anyone know how you remove the guts from the casing? I have electric folding mirrors and can't work out how to get the bracket part off so the rest of the guts will fit through the hole.

Sorry if this doesn't entirely make sense, pretty gutted someone did this to my van for no apparent reason :(

Thanks - yeah I will try them, sadly we only noticed yesterday - we have a call in with the local bongo specialist but being the weekend he's probably got other things on.

Ours is the lime green, near side, power folding mirrors...

I've just had a good look at it, and around the web for some diagrams but can't see how it's put together so I presume once they are put together in the factory it's not possible to take them apart?

They don't appear to be easily strip-able according to the parts diagram, but I have seen people get them apart: http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

The colour coded ones will be really tricky to find, and if yours is the same colour as mine, then they don't come for up for breaking (ever).

Thanks everyone. Yeah you are right it looks like they are very difficult to get apart.

What we managed to find was an electric folding one from a Freda which luckily has screws on the bottom (I presume this is a gen 1 design) which you can use to take the bracket off the bottom, this then means the guts slide out of the mirror casing.

We then cut the bracket off the existing mirror casing (which was still OK) and pulled the old guts out, transplanted the new one and put the screws back at the bottom.

The wiring plug looks slightly different which worried us at first but plugging it all in it works fine - it's a different design electrically inside the mirror but still works perfectly.

So crisis averted!

And yes Simon mine is exactly the same colour! :) :) I am already going to start stashing a few spares just in case...
