The Oldest Bongo Still On The Road

Post by Ian » Tue Apr 07, 2015 8:10 am

The first Mazda Bongo Friendee rolled off the production line on the 19th April 1995. The oldest Bongo in the club would appear to be that belonging to Chris Blackburn of Manchester. His Bongo was made on 18 May 1995.

We have asked the membership if anyone has one older, and have now heard from Lynda & David Pygott of Wakefield whose Bongo was made on 15/05/95. Has anyone got an earlier one?

You can check the age of your Bongo by inputting the chassis number on this Russian website:

Chassis number ends 158, registered on 1st July 1995. Haven't the heart to get rid of her and had major welding carries out in January this year. Owned by us since December 2004 and hopefully get another 10 years out of her.

Not that I can understand much of what the site is telling me but the date is showing as:

17.05.95

Chassis number ends 140

According to the V5 it was first registered in Uk on 01.08.99, that seems pretty early?

Our chassis number is SGL5F-000... but I don't seem to be able to get it to work on the site. Does anyone know why?
Allan's closed. We recommend PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services in Plymouth.

Hello All,

I can't seem to get anywhere with the translation of the link. I can reach the site and have entered the number but it doesn't do much.

Can anyone help?

My chassis number ends with 34. This looks promising! :D

Edit:

Oh Doone, Allan, it looks like you have an older Bongo than mine!

can anyone help Doone and me?

Tim

It's because your chassis number is SGL5F-100... No Bongos or Fredas have the 6 digit part starting with zero.
