I'll leave the walk planning to you Bob! I wouldn't mind onto the hills though, we haven't done that yet.Bob wrote:Any thoughts on the walks?

I think Crazy had a plan for this, otherwise I'll get the map out.
Edit: Possibly Saturday for the hills to allow for Sunday lunch at the Swan?
Or an early walk and back for lunch on Sunday?

I just remembered 2 points.boyfrombrasil wrote:Only if there's a pub in them there hills!Bob wrote:I think Crazy had a plan for this...

1. There is a White Horse
2. I'd better make a donation to mountain rescue...

White Horse sounds like a pub.

Walk options include The Barge, with optional excursion up Woodborough Hill, possibly best on Saturday due to Sunday lunch booking.
Pewsey, much closer and nice village, also likely best on Saturday for reason above.
Walk onto hills as planned by Crazy, maybe get on with it Sunday AM and back for lunch.
Any thoughts or suggestions most welcome.

Decisions, decisions! I probably won't be able to keep up anyway.
Dave has us booked for 22 Friday evening meal and 20 for Sunday lunch. He is aware it's Mother's Day and I don't want to have a booking that may cancel. So please do let me know if you change your mind.

Actually for the Saturday, for a change of direction I was looking at perhaps walking to The Seven Stars Inn at Bottlesford (looks great), it would appear there is a cut through by Wilcot church and then along very quiet back roads past the Garden Centre at Woodborough and on to the pub. But Hey! that's just another idea.
cheers! party on dudes.

Sounds good to me, Gray.

Hi Gilly,
Had previously seen message about meals but thought I had missed your lunch at the pub so didn't reply.
If not too late could you add me for Friday night and Sunday lunch.
Apologise for tardiness.
What time are people arriving on Friday?
regards Marion.

We did the walk around the Church last year and then cut back to the canal (get it?!). How far is this pub Gray? I'll google it later.crazy uncle gray g wrote: Actually for the Saturday, for a change of direction I was looking at perhaps walking to The Seven Stars Inn at Bottlesford (looks great), it would appear there is a cut through by Wilcot church and then along very quiet back roads past the Garden Centre at Woodborough and on to the pub. Just googled it. Note it's opening times. About the same distance as the Barge Inn? Perhaps a bit more.
Perhaps up the hill on Sunday morning - got to get an appetite!

I'll speak to Dave, Marion, as he wants me to ask before adding more to the list for Mother's Day. You're already down for the Friday evening meal. I'll get back to you.marionw wrote:Hi Gilly,

Camping list: please park as close together as reasonably possible.
Caravan/motorhomes with EHU:
Boyfrombrasil;
Chris & Gem;
Gray & Kerry;
Tony & Pam;
Geoff & Carole;
Bongo with EHU (pub end but furthest from road):
Bob & Carole;
Daran & Tracey (if EHU is possible);
Caravan/motorhomes without EHU (along road boundary as close to hedge as possible):
Bob & Su;
Alan & Georgie;
Bongo & tent (either further along the road hedge after the caravans or along post & rail opposite):
Jillygumbo;
Baz;
Mary;
Marion;
Chris & Emma;
Adam & Lorna;
Mark Wiltshire;
Brieley & Andy;
Angie & Jerry
If the Chippenham/Calne group want to be pitched together, Daran & Tracey may well have to forego EHU.
If the ground is soggy (likely), then it may be a good idea to try parking up in a second row next to the pub end, rather than along the field edges. Basically, the further you go into the centre of the field, the soggier it gets.
Meals list:
Friday evening: Alan & Georgie; Bob & Su; Baz; Mary; Marion; Geoff & Carole; Chris & Emma; Adam & Lorna; Daran & Tracey; Mark +1; Brieley & Andy; Angie & Jerry (+2 somewhere); (22)
Sunday lunch: Jillygumbo; Alan & Georgie; Baz; Marion; Chris’ group 12+2
It’s getting pretty chocker for meals on Sunday lunch, it being Mother’s Day an all! I’ve pre-warned Dave and he’s advised me not to add any more to the list without speaking to him first.
We have 7 that would like EHU. Bring your splitters and extension leads because bongo’s will be asked to leave the hardstanding area for those that need it more, ie heavier jobbies.
AVOID THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD!!
Bongo’s don’t forget your “tents” so that you are classed as “car and tent”. Marion, I’ll bring my spare.
For the camping, please pay Dave in the pub: £10 per unit per night. The pub is very free and easy about timings so there’s no rush to leave on Sunday. Arrive any time Friday – I’ll be there around noon. Main menu NOT available on Sunday.
We have 2 event shelters for the middle and 2 firepits (I think). Bring some ready-cut wood. We don’t want to be sawing up wood – been there done that!
Walks are being planned but it’s free and easy, you either join the walks, or don’t. Pewsey is an easy walk either along the lanes (most direct) or along the canal. There are a number of good pubs in Pewsey. Along the canal the other way is The Barge Inn at Honey Street where they sell green beer!! That’s a 3 mile walk. There may also be a walk up a hill, perhaps to the White Horse (that’s not a pub!) or the nearest hill. Gray is thinking of a walk to The Seven Stars Inn at Bottlesford. A footpath followed by quiet country lanes (hope). According to Google Maps this is 2.7 miles (51 minutes). Interesting, Google Maps makes the walk along the canal to the Barge Inn as further – no wonder I find it hard going on the way back (or is that the green beer)!

Thanks, Jilly.
Marion, we should be there late morning as we both have the day off.

Chipp/Calne crew would like to be together if at all possible. I neglected to post EHU needs except for Daran so rather than mess everybody else up there has been a flurry of activity sorting out an EHU splitter. Some just need leccy temporarily to top up battery. One or two don't need it at all. This sounds like a real nuisance! I didn't realise there were tricky layout considerations.
