Idling Problem

Post by Robster » Wed Jan 28, 2015 12:25 pm

Hi guys, I have a drive by wire 1999 2.5 diesel which has developed an idling problem when warm.
The engine runs as if it wants to stall, not all the time and only when on tick over at lights/junctions.
You can rev it out and all is fine until the next set/juction.

Are we thinking a sensor may be on it's way or EGR sticking maybe.

Cheers :?

Thanks for the replies

Have changed all filters with no difference.
Have tried with fuel cap loose/Off with no difference.
Putting into N or Park with no difference. only in N/Park can you rev it out and all is ok until next stop.

:) Hi NB, putting it to N or Park makes no difference. I loose a few revs but thats all.

If I rev the engine at 2000revs for 3/4 seconds then release the accelarator all is well until the next stop and its tries to stall again.

If the engine gains a few revs when you put it out of gear that is quite normal as you are removing any drag. What is RPM when out of gear?

This system uses a sensor and a switch on the accelerator pedal, as has been said (Bongo Forum) worthwhile checking the rubber stops and the connectors on both, and the bit about the regulating valve.

It might also be worthwhile resetting the ECU , I have seen this fault when the ECU defaults to (depending on vehicle) as low as 400RPM.

Good Luck.

Hi All,

Just to update. The fault was the EGR VALVE stuck open.

Bought two blanking plates online for £6 from Allan's Garage Plymouth. Even shows how to do it. Easy DIY

All running sweet =D> :D

was it stuck open or stuck closed, as it should be open when warmed up, when the fault was showing itself.

its good to get feedback like this as it helps the next chap.
