Solenoid valve 18-741c u/s is kit important?

Post by langtoftnick » Wed Feb 18, 2015 2:25 pm

One of the solenoid valves 18-741c which I think is part of the egr system on my 95 wilt diesel is u/s dead shorted... Is this important, and anyone know where I can get a replacement bit? Any breakers in peterborough area?

george will post you one mate.

http://www.bongospares.co.uk/

is it 18741-c on here.

http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... 1of02.html.

its the very cold start , and it is important,when the coolant temp is below about 10 deg c, not used when temp is above that.

That may explain why it doesn't start when it's cold!

Holy cow they're expensive.

I've never heard of this part. How did you work out cost from the info on lushprojects?

Didn't, contacted bongospares.. however to be fair Ben has agreed to split it up and just give me the one I need at vastly reduced cost. According to him, the two solenoids connect to two temp sensors and operate at different temp ranges to assist in cold starting and running.

Which one of the two is it? Looking from the door, the left one is number 1, the right, number two. Number 1 should give vacuum to the FCD from cold to about 20 C, number 2 continues to do so until working temp. Number 2 will kick in again if you put the aircon on, raising the idle to compensate for the increased load on the alternator. Both are controlled by temperature signals sent from the sender on the engine to the ECU and they open, ie allow vacuum, by a switch in the negative return. Both should have 12v live and can be tested by earthing the negative terminal. Holding a finger over the end of the vacuum pipe with engine running will tell you if it is sucking or not. My ECU isn't giving the signal to number 1 so I connected a switched earth and just switch it on and off as needed.
Regards,
Brian.

Two handy resources are;
1. Lush projects mechanical diagrams http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/
2. Online Wiring diagrams & Help pages http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm
