I have the same fridge with the same symptoms. I have just replaced my leisure battery and everything is now fine.
I suspect that my old leisure battery, although within the acceptable voltage range, couldn't release the high surge needed when the compressor fridge starts

That's interesting. Maybe after this weekend I will invest in a new LB and see if that makes a difference. Will keep you posted!

Which is kind of what I suggested in my post John.....
With Batteries....we kind of ignore the fact with Leisure types as to the guarantee as many Starter batteries can last 10 years before giving up.....but we use LB's in a different way so we really should keep an eye on them when the warranty period comes to an end.
Elecsol went bust as they offered 5 year warranties and had bad customer service.... the one I have now is a 4 yr warranty job...but....with the solar kit I now have I don't doubt that it will now last that long. My Fridge has a 7 amp surge when it starts.... just saying....

Indeed it was Mike

- I was just trying to put a different angle to it, so that it was less technical

Hi
We had a similar issue with our Waeco CF50 recently and I am sure it was due to the wiring. In our case, it was a loose connection. It looked like it was the battery but as it was nearly new and reading a healthy voltage it didn't make sense that it would be. I found Waeco's website quite helpful in diagnosing the problem. Good luck

An update on my original posting regarding my fridge problem. As the wise owls of the forum predicted it is my leisure battery that is at fault. After experiencing various problems, today with the help of my father in law and his vast array of weird and wonderful tools, we did a discharge on the leisure battery. When doing this the battery dropped from 13.3 to 10.4. I'm assuming this is a massive drop in voltage so affecting the fridge when the motor kicks in. Problem 1 solved.
Now I need to get myself a new one. Question is, what type do I get and where is the best place to get it?
I can, I do, I did.

Yes. It just puzzled me why I had such a good reading off the battery but still couldn't get the fridge to fire up. I bow to the vast knowledge on the forum. I am just finishing off my large piece of humble pie!!!

Once you've fitted it, don't rely on the alternator keeping it charged, the mains (EHU) or a solar panel will take it to a higher voltage than your alternator. Only charging to the limit of the alternator will do irreparable damage over time

I Do have a solar panel fitted so are you saying let this or the EHU to keep it charged? Sorry I'm above my station on this one. Electrics are not my strong point!

Depends how your system is wired but your solar panel should boost the alternator charge. The alternator will do the lion's share of the charging (up to ~13.8V) but the solar panel will take it to a higher voltage, typically 14.4V

... sort of. The solar charger will trickle charge the LB and make it show 14.4volts (ish) - as you have to put a higher voltage in to make a battery charge, but it's only at that voltage whilst under charge. Unplug the charger and wait about half an hour to an hour, and your battery will settle at it's true full voltage, which is 12.6 volts.
Your solar panel, if connected to a solar regulator, which I imagine it is, will give your battery a nice healthy trickle charge, so you don't have to worry about using a hookup occasionally. What Muz is implying , is that alternator charging is a rough and ready charge, and connecting to a proper charger with trickle mode (EHU or solar) will give your battery a nice top-off, pretty much "conditioning" it.
I have no idea if soley using the alternator to charge a battery is detrimental to it. I suspect not as all our starter batteries are charged that way!

The only real accurate way to test them is under load, a battery will easily move the digits on a millimetre but once it has a proper load the voltage will drop dramatically on a tired battery.
The electronic testers are the best my local motor factor has one that tests the battery and charging system and its free.

New leisure battery fitted yesterday. Now fridge is working fine. Let's hope this is the last thing I need to buy for a while, expensive two months!!
