insurance question

Post by nth » Tue Sep 16, 2014 12:05 pm

I've just taken out a new policy for the bongo with admiral & found that i'm not covered to drive other cars (on a third party only basis). I understand age & your occupation can have an effect on this but when I called to query this they said it was the type of vehicle I was insuring. Does anyone else have this issue with their insurance company ?

Nope, I've just renewed with Adrian Flux on the Bongo for £270 which includes driving other peoples car not just 3rd party but fully comp. I did pay £40 for the pleasure of upgrading it to fully comp, but 3rd party was included anyway.

Unconverted for me. There's so many variables in there but I've not heard of that having a bearing on driving others cars. Perhaps someone else has?

Typically, it's TPF&T unless specified otherwise. My Bongo policy with C&CC doesn't mention use of other vehicles (as I recall) although my 'normal' policy with Admiral does cover me.

I haven't checked mine, but it seems that several companies have dropped the "driving other car" option - I suppose it's one way of reducing the premiums.

I had the same with Allianz a couple of years ago. Present policy with C&C Club allows it.
My policies in the past have only ever been Third party cover on the other vehicle.

NFU have just quoted me £485 fully comp for a 1.4 Skoda Fabia. I have no issues etc other than I am over 75 and the stats say all over 75s should be treated as a poor risk.

Well you know what it's like - all you over 75's drag racing down the high street, causing trouble :o

£475 doesn't sound that bad. How does it compare if you had been under 75? If the stats show that (on average) people in a certain age range / location / demographic / profession are a higher risk then it makes sense for premiums to be adjusted accordingly. Other option is that all the drivers deemed low risk subsidise all the yoofs and the idiots on the road which would be grossly unfair.

The vast majority of people think they are better than average drivers which of course is nonsense as it would no longer be an average #-o
