Are the Diesels supposed to be that noisy??

Post by Hayzo69 » Tue Jun 10, 2014 10:37 pm

Took my diesel 4x4 for its first wee run today after it's first service (delivered Sat from Dan Sath). I realise I'm sitting on the engine but Jings!
Seems to pull OK. Maybe just not used to older vehicles...

Cheers.

New to all this Bongo stuff. Took the jump without having driven one before.
I might have to investigate sound proofing it. :?
Nice tight steering though and great visibility.

Muirhead (Outside Dundee).

The local garage didn't seem phased by it.

They deal with a lot of vans/commercial vehicles.

Maybe just me.

You need an expert to have a listen. When I had a Bongo I was told at one of the area meets that my diesel seemed to be a tad noisy. Took it to a former club member in Edinburgh who used to be a garage manager for a second opinion and was directed to a suitable garage. It was found that three of my tappets were a wee bit loose, when tightened up the engine was a bit quieter.

Make sure all the engine cover seals are seated properly and there are no gaps in any of them.

The slightest gap will let a lot of sound through.

Thanks for the input.

Well I got my 'service' bill back from the local garage.

Oil change and filters etc. New brake pads all round and bits and bobs including cleaning up discs and calipers.

Care to hazard a guess how much it cost?
