bumpy ride!
Hi, I was hoping someone could advise on what might need doing to my 2001 bongo. Ive only had it since january as a fresh import, and had always noticed its getting an increasingly bumpy ride. Ive just been out today and noticed that when driving at walking pace there is definitely a noticeably bump coming from one of the front wheels. Ive checked the tyres and they all seem to be in tact. If anyone knows what this might be is it something a regular garage could repair or should I take it the extra distance to a bongo specialist?
Re: bumpy ride!
Firstly, check the wheel nuts are tight!
Secondly, feel around the tyre for any 'lumps' in the tread. Jack each wheel up and turn it (may takea bit of effort due to 4wd) to see if they are visible. I have had tyres deform in the past (even a brand new one!) resulting in a bulge on the tread and a very lumpy ride. When I bought my Bongo, the front tyres were very strangely worn - I suspect either serious tracking issues on their previous installation (they came from another Bongo) or issues resulting from different wheel sizes, or even a locked centre diff (?). This resulting in vibration, especially at low rolling speeds. New tyres have sorted this completely.

Re: bumpy ride!
Thanks Steptoe, I checked the front tyres all round - all fine so took it to the garage who pointed out a huge buldge in the back tyres! All sorted now for some summer adventures
Re: bumpy ride!
Good to hear you got it sorted. It can be difficult to spot these in the early stages, as the tread still appears to be fine.
Enjoy some smooth cruising from now on.
