Roof and blinds work when they feel like it - bad earth?

Post by Buxtonbongo » Wed Apr 02, 2014 2:39 pm

Hi

My current problems (excuse the pun) are that the electric rear blinds (both sides) and the roof work only when they feel urge. I had a problem with the diesel gauge earth as well but have now fixed that (touch wood).

Are they related? Or, is it just a coincidence?

Has anyone else had similar problems and fixed them?

If there are some earth points, straps or troublesome connectors that often need a good clean let me know where they are and I'll attack them with a copper brush and some WD40.

Thanks in advance.

Probably unrelated, except by age. That was my experience anyway. New earth strap fixed gauge. Electrical contact spray may fix blinds (switches get iffy), and two expensive new motors eventually fixed my roof!

For the blinds try operating the front switches several times, they rarely get used and oxidise up till insufficient current.

Likewise check the Handbrake switch (does the brake light operate ?) before opening the AFT.

Excellent advice as usual. I use my blinds most days when I park up at work largely for the reason Geoff mentions. I should do likewise with the roof. Use it or lose it I think with electrics I think.
