Value for insurance

Value for insurance
Its insurance time again.
I have a 1996 Tintop Bongo with 8 seats and a rear kitchen, nice alloys, temp and low water alarm.
All in excellent condition apart from one dented wheel arch which should be fixed soon.
Its done 180000km
so is it worth £3k? £4?

Re: Value for insurance
I was advised by my insurers that they will never pay out more than the value you agree with them, so if in doubt select a higher value and it is unlikely to affect your premium anyway. So, don't give them any opportinity to pay out less than it's really worth.
Unless you have specified what the 'nice alloys' are worth as an agreed modification, you are unlikely to get paid out any more than bog standard wheels. Likewise, rear camper conversion wont add to the value unless you have declared it.

Thanks
I have put the value at £4000.
Problem at the moment is my last insurer no id no longer insuring vehicles, broker has no one who will do a 8 seater camper that's registered as an MPV, I wonder has any one on here managed to get the log book back with camper / motor home on it?
2gether and Flux are best at £220 at the moment with mods

Have a read here: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 47&t=59518
You will need your conversion to be a lot more permanent to meet requirements of a motorcaravan.

£220 is a great price, do you have no claims discount?
My renewal is £255 with a limit of 3000 miles....
Have you noticed they are not doing European breakdown insurance now?

Re: Value for insurance
I have a car I use for a daily driver (406 Peugeot estate) I have full no claims on that.
Some companies mirror the no claims from your daily driver policy to reduce the preimium.
The Bongo is insured as a second car social domestic and pleasure only no commuting, its on the drive and only 3000 miles a year.
We have 4 cars in the house three registered to me, this helps apparantly?
I have used Pete Best for many years with my previous campers, classics and even a radically modified 4x4 and found them to be excellent, but one company they use are no longer insuring any vehicles, so it limits the choice the one they now offer wont do 8 seats and recoverys extra.
I am in the AA and have any vehcile with no age limit for about £10 per month.

Re: Value for insurance
Mine is similar to yours, 95 tin top Bongo only a V6. The agreed value insured with Caravan and Camping Club is £5,000.
Bodywork, immaculate no rust and perfect wheel arches. Full under seal. Bit of a scruffy interior. Front seats could do with recovering and the headlining is marked.
I have a Montague rear conversion, with Waeco fridge and a fold out bed. Middle seat reversed. Conversion permanently fixed and not removable.
The van is still registered as plg, since to register it as a motor caravan would mean removing the rear seat belts, which still could be used if the seat was turned around to face forward again. Caravan and Camping Club accept is a motor caravan as it is a known full conversion.
Hope that is of some help.
