2.5TD Air conditioning Compressor

Post by hijimhere » Thu Aug 08, 2013 2:05 am

My compressor has developed an awful racket intermittently - it is at it's worse at low revs - very dry rotary noise - like a clutch release bearing noise of the worst sort but obviously there is no release bearing in an automatic -- Not to sure if I should have the system charged or look to replace the compressor. I understand 1996 is likely to have lubricant within R134A? Recharge maybe the cheaper option but could be good money after bad! Just be interested in any one who may have taken the recharge option for this type of symptom.

Sounds like the Clutch needs a wee service.

Yes I felt we were dealing with the clutch - the belts a bit naff and the unit seems to be at it's limit of any adjustment. Not been into a clutch on a compressor - didn't know that it was a servicable part - thanks

The clutch is external at the front of the compressor, give the paul pivot points a light oil (3 in 1)or similar, it should take you 5 minutes.

You need to change the naff belt also, another 5 minutes.

Then have the rest of the day off.

Good Luck.
