Starter motors
Hi all can anybody tell me the difference between the 2 types of starter motor. The reason is I've just put the spare new one on, it's slightly different but makes a hell of a whirring as it slows down after the engine is started.

Hi,the starters should be interchangeable, try cleaning a giving it a light oil ( 3 in 1) or similar.

Hi thanks guys I have definitely got the summer starters, the new one which is brand new from a ford ranger( that's what it says on the box) still makes a whirring noise I will fit the new contact set to my old one and put it back on.

Ah,I thought you were talking about the 2 types of Mazda Bongo 2.5td starter motors, the Ford Ranger has many types of models and starter motors. You need to cross reference the part numbers.
PS also check the Gnashers.
Re: Starter motors
Hi Rita, the new one starts the car fine but when the engine starts the starter motor gives a sort of slow down whine. Teeth were band new and there's no sound when starting just as I said above, should I have oiled or greased the teeth?
