True, and I found my Bongo brakes can fade after lots of upping and downing in the Yorkshire Dales with a full load on board so since then I've always used the gearbox for braking where possible, to keep the brakes cooler.DILLIGAF wrote:Just back from exmoor (again, just love it.) used the hold button +s on most of the steep hills, especially places like the descent from "HAWKRIDGE" to "TARR STEPS", and whithypool bridge cottage where we stopped off today to watch the hunt from the high tops. There's loads of steep spots where the hold comes in really handy to help braking.

Might be worthwhile changing the brake fluid.mikeonb4c wrote:True, and I found my Bongo brakes can fade after lots of upping and downing in the Yorkshire Dales with a full load on board so since then I've always used the gearbox for braking where possible, to keep the brakes cooler.DILLIGAF wrote:Just back from exmoor (again, just love it.) used the hold button +s on most of the steep hills, especially places like the descent from "HAWKRIDGE" to "TARR STEPS", and whithypool bridge cottage where we stopped off today to watch the hunt from the high tops. Re: Hold Button
Using the Hold button saves fuel when climbing hills ..
It's better than giving the engine more 'gas' to get some extra revs ..
Slogging an engine is not good .. so it's kinder on the mechanicals as well ..!!

Re: Hold Button
Good point, and I thought of that, but I don't think it was the cause. The brakes were being worked v hard, and I had a very heavy load on board, and the Dales are seriously up and down, so it was an extreme test. Never had a problem since.teenmal wrote:Might be worthwhile changing the brake fluid.mikeonb4c wrote:True, and I found my Bongo brakes can fade after lots of upping and downing in the Yorkshire Dales with a full load on board so since then I've always used the gearbox for braking where possible, to keep the brakes cooler.DILLIGAF wrote:Just back from exmoor (again, just love it.) used the hold button +s on most of the steep hills, especially places like the descent from "HAWKRIDGE" to "TARR STEPS", and whithypool bridge cottage where we stopped off today to watch the hunt from the high tops. Re: Hold Button
A point to remember with brake fluid is that 'normal' brake fluids will intermix up to DOT5.1 .. but .. Dot 5 will not as it is silicone based..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_fluid
Could never understand why the silicone based versions where never given a completely different 'code' ..

A long time ago. But the symptoms weren't this:
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/vehiclespec ... efluid.htm
And I reckon the cause was as detailed for non brake fluid fade here:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_fade
But I should really change the fluid at some point. I bought the fluid and kit but didn't get a round tuit
