chugg on start up,then fine rest of the day egr?

Post by chipvan » Wed Feb 27, 2013 10:12 am

hi guys, this last week we have had the bongo hunt a bit on 1st cold start of the day.

It starts 1st time but after a minute or so it starts to chug and splutter, have blue smoke out the back for a few minuites then cleaes and is fine for the rest of the day

Our egr is not blanked off but the vac pipe is,saw somewhere that this may cause a prob like we are having.

got some plates on order from allens so will throw them in and see, just one of the jobs never got round to doing!

does this sound like the prob? no air in fuel lines and not a blocked filter, starting on diesel after a long flush down(veg oil kit) and a drive for a couple of miles after.

The exhaust does not smell of any veg oil at all so i know iam starting on pure diesel.

many thanks

what temps is it happening at.??
if its under 10 deg c then it sounds like the low temp solenoid is working up to 10deg but then the white plugged one should cut in and turn the other 1st one off, if this white plugged one isnt working you wont have half choke (from 10 degc to about 50 degc).
this usually shows up as, starts and runs ok for 1st couple of mins then acts up.
is it ok if you just jump in and drive off??, does the aircon work??.

the aircon does work, but the revs have always droped since we had it when we turn on a/c.

will try in the morning and see if it will just drive off ok.

Its only when its quite cold

where can i get one from, worth a try

and thanks again!

sounds like the cold start solenoids mate. plenty on here about them.

breakers or on any mazdas even the newer models, any with the egr system both petrol and diesels. but it may just be the pipework to them.

Hi
I think it depends on how each engine was running before blanking. The engine can be running well within reasonable limits, BUT some will get more improvement than others. Mine made a noticeable difference - slightly livelier, and more responsive, but definitely worth doing, even though fuel economy was 28-32 MPG before, and running perfectly.
Cheers
