I too worked at GM dealers for a while and we replaced the "Lifters" as a matter of course. Always left in a bath of engine oil prior to replacement.

Certainly do rattle a bit until the hydraulics get to work.

Hi,

Intrested to read about your engine rebuild as I own 2 V6 Bongos. Pleased that you got sorted out and running fine. Find it hard to believe that all 24 lifters could all have failed all at the same time. Did the garage give any explenation as to what had actually failed on them. Reason I'm asking is that one of my vans has started to get a bit noisey and my garage had said that they suspected it may be a sign that the lifters may be getting worn.

Cheers

I agree with you, I don’t think any of them actually failed “in service” and there was no undue noise before the work was commenced. If I remember the explanation correctly, they didn’t adjust to the correct size after refitting and therefore the valves didn’t move. I really can’t say any more.
