Inner track rod end replacment - any write ups?

Post by Driver+Passengers » Thu Dec 20, 2012 8:16 pm

Other than what's in the workshop manual, have there been any write ups of this job? I had a quick search but nothing stood out. Any tips?

I'll maybe have to just muddle through...

which bit do you mean matt, the track rod end outer to the swivel, or the inner end into the rack.

Inner to the rack. The bit I should have done first time round - when I replaced pretty much every other component.

Astonished by the rate at which the inners have deteriorated now that everything else is tight.

B*ll*cks!!! Opposing threads, or what? They looked the same to me - going back out to check...

Edit: new part marked ASL702 - supplier claims there are not handed. Just realised I have no spanner that will go large enough - and not convinced about clearance in there to turn it anyway. One of the pistons out of the steering rack has gray/brown greasy looking stuff on it, the other looks clear.

Not sure it can be done without removing the rack. Anyone know? Very poor access/clearance.

Hi,the usual practice is to use extractor tool, these are very expensive, you could maybe borrow one from your friendly Garage..
