Adjusting TPS/ gear change!!!

Post by chiefster1976 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 1:37 pm

HI all!!
I was just wondering if the Bongos have electronic TPS or can be adjusted manually?
i have 2 bongos. A 1995 and a 1996
The 1995 seems to change up gears sooner than the 1996 bongo that i have...
these 2 bongos are my 3rd and 4th bongos so you get to feel the general change up in gears..(the 95 is normal the 96 is taking too long to change up)
I have had a mits Delica MKII 1998 recently and although that one was electronic TPS the earlier ones you were able
to adjust the TPS by loosening one screw and turning the TPS unit until reading 0.7volts= sooner change up in gears..
just wondering if the bongo of the earlier years have the option to adjust??
Gearbox oils are o.k and correct.

The TPS is basically a variable resistor mounted on the to the throttle mechanism on the injector pump. Same idea as the Delica: loosen it & twist it one way or the other. Never adjusted one myself although I'm planning to have a tinker with the V6 equivalent sensor. Typically, mark its current position, slacken it, move it a bit one way & see what happens. If it does the opposite of what you expect, try moving it back the other way.

I think if you try a search for 'TPS' there should be some more technical info regarding voltages etc.

You can adjust the TPS position on the earlier style Bongos.

It's a baw hair at a time though, very sensitive.

voltage reading that worked well?? Thanks again for the pics if you can..cheers...gavin..

Worth a search as I'm sure pics of it have been posted many times on here before?

It's a small unit of measurement, primarily used in Scotland.

The range goes (smallest to largest) : Baw Hair, Gnat's tadger, Wee Nudge, Dunt, shove, bit, heaps, shed loads, hunners.

Hi,you could check the TPS voltage between the two vehicles, that would let you know if it Is a voltage problem or something else.

The preset voltage is .....
.
1.3v closed
4.2v open
