went and picked up a injector today and while chatting with the dealer who has a link on the fury website .was advised never to buy a bongo that has had a new cylinder head and if a cylinder head goes then best to just scrap the vehicle as they will continue to fail .
was also told by the same guy, that his garage that he sends work into has now refused to repair bongos with failed heads / gaskets as they always will come back within weeks with same problem
has anyone heard of this happening
or is the guy having a bad day
still i am happy now bongo running well
advised to scrap

Re: advised to scrap
You will hear of plenty of changed heads on the forum here, simply because many people come here when they have problems!
I can't recall many - if any - people reporting serial head failures / multiple failures. The main cause of multiple faults are when garages do a repairs without knowing much about the diesel Bongo's they are working on, and they repair the head without repairing the cause

Re: advised to scrap
A load of rubbish. If the cause of the head failure is dealt with there is no reason why the replacement head should not last as long as the original.
You are from the same part of Hampshire as me and I had a similar experience with a local dealer three years ago. I have a V6 tintop in brilliant condition. I was considering swapping it for an AFT and was looking at his stock. The guy had a quick look at my Bongo and came up with a story how it had been obviously clocked. Probably had an extra 100,000 km on the clock and was only fit for scrap. All very unpleasant and all untrue.
In fact I have every service sheet for it from Japan, plus a totally correct BITMA certificate and deregistration documents. A totally verified mileage. I walked out furious. He did not get my Bongo for a total rip off offer. Having contacts in the trade I later found he wanted an engine for a converted V6 he had in stock, hence the story about scrap.
Three years later my Bongo is running as well as ever, no problems, no faults. Your story sounds from the same style of customer relations.

Re: advised to scrap
most non bongo garages will not cope with coolant system and (SOME) who say they are a bongo garage still struggle to do a propper job,if in doubt get on here and ask about the garages your thinking of taking it..
Pick any car you like ...and dont bleed up the coolant and see what happens, just the bongo is not as easy as some cars to bleed .This is the most common fault

Re: advised to scrap
The problem is many garages just fit a new head without investigating what caused the original head to fail in the first place.
Even if they have bled the system properly the new head will fail if the cause of the original failure was not found, more often than not this was due to radiator blockage, my advice is new head + new radiator = no problem.
Cheers Tony

Re: advised to scrap
my head failure seems to be caused by a failed thermostat
all the rest of the cooling system is fine as when i first got the bongo i drained and flushed the whole system
fitted new hoses refilled with fresh antifreeze mix as i was unsure if any was in it,then used the see saw bleeding method to bleed it until no air came out then rebled it 58 miles later just to be sure
bloody thermostats
