Do I have 4WD or not?

I have a question, are all Bongos 4WD? I assumed they are, however I unfortunately got stuck in some mud today and found that whilst my rear wheels were spinning in the mud the front wheels were doing nothing at all?

This would lead me to believe that I only have rear wheel drive or that there is something wrong with the drive of the front wheels. Any suggestions?

Either check underneath and see if there are two drive shafts going to the front wheels,or check the chassis number on your reg doc.Write the 1st 5 letters and numbers on here and someone will tell you if its 4 or 2 wheel drive (summat like SLG-5 or WLG-5 ) This denotes which it is. Cant check mine as its a 2ltr petrol
I assume yours ISNT petrol,as they are all 2WD

Put the body number of your Bongo in the boxes of the lower of these two on this Russian Forum (i.e. SGL5 156234) pruss the button and it will tell you what you have mostly in English.

They most certainly are not all 4WD, mine isn't and it's a 1998 2.5 TD tintop.

was 1 rear wheel spinning or were both of them spinning. if both it may have a limited slip rear diff, as opposed to a normal rear diff.

Also you may be looking at your vehicle & thinking "hang on... It's got a big 4 wheel drive sticker on the side!" (If it has?) Or if the spec list says it should...

The previous owner may have removed the front prop shaft to the front drive for some reason...?

whats the chasis number? sgl5 or sgl3
