how do you know your heads gone??

Post by chipvan » Fri Feb 10, 2012 9:13 pm

Been having a spot of bother, bongo overheated, just need to know is it had it.
No oil in coolant
No water in oil
starts on the 1st turn
no white smoke
No water coming from exhaust.

Is there a test that can be done? To see if we somehow got away with it...

Pulled over as soon as temp went high..

The only way to be sure is to have a whiffer test done by a local garage but make sure the leave it for up to 30 mins as with a very small leak like mine had it can take a fiar time to turn the magic liquid from blue to green.

pressure test the cooling system, with it running (usual disclaimers apply)the normal pressure for a warmed up bongo is about 10 pounds, above that could mean exhaust leaking into the coolant system. below that could be coolant escaping into the cylinder/head.
be carefiul if you do this.

or a quick check could be to get it up to temp and see how hard the rubber hoses feel, if they are rock hard stand well back and turn it off quick.
