Changing headlight bulb

Post by Bogmonster40 » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:07 pm

Even this would have been something that I would have popped into a garage to have done in times gone by  :oops

Do I just remove the 8mm bolt to take the headlight out then change the bulb ?

I am very sorry for having to post these inane posts on here, hopefully I will be able to drop my engine and do a full overhaul in the near future - and it will be all thanks to these forums

Not in vehicles before 1999, just pull the plug off the back of the bulb, and release the spring clip, oh and the rubber gaiter, when releasing the spring watch which way you need to squeeze it to release the clip so you know how it goes back on again. The bulb only fits into position one way, now reverse the process.

dont touch the glass on the new bulb, it will leave oil off your fingers and will get a hot spot on it causing it to fail.
the bulb has 3 connections on the rear, fit so one is horizontal and the other 2 are verticle,it will locate easier like this.
the rubber cover on the rear has a breather at the bottom fit this way when refitting.

if you don't ask you will never find out how to do things - so don't apologise just enjoy the fact that people on this forum share their knowledge and we all learn from other know-how.
Be nice to everyone they might be nice back.

I've always found it easier to remove the headlamp - it's a simple job :D

gently wiggle the multiplug untill it lets go, then remove the rubber doughnut by pulling it, this exposes the rear of the bulb which is held in place by a spring which hooks round a loop, push in the spring towards the bulb, unhook it and swing away, take note of which way it sits (the three terminals) gently pull the bulb, note the 3 locators on the bulb edge that locate it the correct way up in the lamp.

With MOT tomorrow, this thread was just what I was after. Thanks.

I put a page on the wiki, too.
