De-mister, De- froster

Hello everyone,

My De-mister seems to have packed up which is frustrating in the cold damp conditions. When I put it onto the front window de-mist/de-frost setting the air just comes out of the front air vents so it takes ages to de- mist (fan and heaters are working). Does anyone have any ideas about a solution for this? I will need to take it to a garage but it would be nice to be able to suggest a solution.

down by the drivers left foot is the controle dial/wheel you will find a bar has come adrift

you may need to replace this as the lug breaks off but as a temporary measure just replace it and check it regularly

Just adding to this.. If yours is a manual heater control, check the "bicycle brake cable" affair hasn't come unclipped too.?

I think that I will need to replace the plastic white bit as a small piece has broken making the bar pop out, any idea where I might get one, my heater is the electrical/ digital type "climate control"

Mine is missing altogether. For now I have turned the cam by hand to a position where it demists. I did look at four or five scrap Bongos at ADS and none of them had one in fact not all Bongos have them to start with from what we could see.

When I get a round tuit, I am going to try and fashion one from a small metal tent peg.

Would a similar length of "coat hanger wire" bent over at the ends in a loop not do the job so it don't pop out..?

I'm assuming its the retainer/tab on the cog with the rod to the servo that's broke??



I don't have the auto myself, but judging from this picture the swing of the servo arm past the motor housing should allow play for a looped wire at that coupling too...?

Edit; just been out & looked at my manual set up... The white cog is exactly the same, but that retainer tab though intact is redundant on mine on account of a cable attached to a nipple driving it on the left....

Could use a bicycle spoke with a nipple as a nut behind the cam. The hole might need enlarging slightly.

Thanks for this tip - our demister wasn't working either - and had a look under the dash as described, and found the little locking "finger" has gone, so the linkage arm had popped out the hole - just popped it back in and it all works (for now) - just have to fashion a new locking finger thingy and glue it on to slop the linkage popping out again

I just got one from a supplier and fitted a new dial thing cost about £10 second hand if my memory serves or newe are not that expensive I was told if they are about.
