Well, at the risk of disappointing you, the anecdote as told to me by a guy who worked building developments in the Middle East and who was repeating what his Arab friends said to him was:

"If you wish to go into the desert, take a Land Rover or a Land Cruiser.

If you wish to return, take a Land Cruiser."

I know exactly what you mean there Mike...... Land Cruisers come with SAT nav as standard, but the sat nav is an added extra option with the Land Rover. :|

Cripes!!!! So not only is it more likely to break down. It seems that when it does, you won't even be able to tell the rescue services where you are :?   [-o< 8)

"come back in a landcruiser" reminds of a cruiser joke, whats the difference between a cruiser with front mounted winch and one without a winch, answer, the one with the winch is another 40 metres further into the bog. ie give an idiot a better 4wd and he'll just make a bigger mess of it. cruisers are crude in comparison to discos. I'm only speaking from my experience in the worst OZ has to offer off road, Bulgaria and the Cotswolds are bound to be different.

Just for tips for us bongo nuts in Australia...
Dont bother buying drop links from u.k ebay..they are thin and a bit crap...
Pedders matched up mine..They do a universal drop link you can cut down the threaded bar...
They were NOT very expensive and the main shaft/bar is ALOT THICKER... 8)
They do Polyethuene D bushes etc and are cheap also...suspension wise Pedders are the way to go...

Repco do brake pads front and rear for the bongo now also...

Ryco Z313 oil filters the correct ones but are dear at around $50... Im looking to get one from my local suppliers called
BRISBANE AIR CLEANER SERVICES at Brendale... Going to ask about air filters and fuel filters also so watch this space...
They do my DELICA 2.8 TD oil filters for $26..HALF THE PRICE of supercheap or Repco etc...And have a duel core filter inside them whatever that means..lol...
Racing green with extras!!Self build full side conversion which rocks!!!

The bar isn't the bit that goes (certainly never heard of it on the bongo), it's the rubber & ball joint that fails, also check the threaded bar is tight in the mounting hole, if it's not it'll probably end up knocking back & forth no matter how tight you get it.
Not all uk ones are thin & crap [-X - just the cheap ones, better to go for blueprint, mazda or there are some (miele?) on ebay with a 3 or 4 year gaurantee as I remember that a few peeps have used.
At least you managed to find something that does the job though =D>

The rear sway bar links can be rebuilt cheaply. I had a rear clunk and found the LHS link was cactus. One end was rattling in the bush but the other end was good. So ..... I recovered the steel bush and wire brushed it shiny. I bought new poly bushes fitted them into the link and pressed the old in bush in. Works like a shop bought one and the outer steel part is Mazda strong so no worries

I notice that Les (Bush Tucker Man) Hiddins only used Land Rovers - never saw him in a Land Cruiser.
